Kenapa ramai anak-anak Melayu kita yang lemah Maths ???
Empat Sebab Anak Melayu lemah matematik
Pertama, tangkapan negatif pelajar terhadap matapelajaran matematik. Mereka menganggap bahawa matematik adalah matapelajaran yang sukar.
Kedua, masalah kurang keyakinan pada diri sendiri. Ini adalah masalah jiwa. Sebelum mencuba atau sebelum membaca soalan, mereka sudah menyerah kalah dan mengatakan dirinya tidak boleh. Mereka yakin akan gagal.
Ketiga, asas yang lemah. Oleh kerana pelajaran matematik bersifat membangun atau mengembang (developmental), pelajar yang sudah ketinggalan di peringkat bawah akan menghadapi kesukaran mengikuti dan memahami pelajaran di peringkat seterusnya.
Keempat, lemah bahasa Inggeris. Pelajar yang menghadapi masalah ini membaca soalan tetapi mereka tidak dapat memahaminya. Justeru mereka tidak dapat menjawab soalan dengan baik walaupun mereka memahami konsep-konsep matematik.
Untuk mengatasi masalah gerun, kurang keyakinan diri, tangkapan yang negatif, asas matematik yang lemah serta lemah bahasa Inggeris, pendekatan yang saya gunakan di dalam kelas tuition saya ialah dengan menitikberatkan konsep asas matematik. Pelajar akan diterangkan secara terperinci setiap konsep yang diberikan berdasarkan kepada contoh-contoh yang boleh dilihat dan boleh dicapai oleh akal fikiran mereka.
Saya mendedahkan pelajar-pelajar kepada soalan-soalan yang asas atau mudah dahulu sebelum mencuba soalan lebih mencabar. Apabila mereka dapat rasakan bahawa diri mereka sebenarnya boleh jika mereka mencuba dan berusaha, keyakinan diri mereka dengan perlahan akan meningkat.
Sukatan pelajaran Matematik kini tidak sahaja memerlukan pemahaman konsep matematik
yang baik tetapi penekanan juga dibuat pada kemahiran berfikir dan keyakinan diri.
Di sinilah letaknya peranan ibu bapa dalam memastikan anak mereka membina potensi yang diperlukan untuk menguasai bahasa dan memahami konsep matematik. Jika ini tidak dilakukan, kemungkinan besar anak mereka akan ditinggalkan jauh oleh rakan-rakan mereka yang mendapat pendedahan dan pendidikan asas yang lebih sempurna.
Akhir sekali, oleh kerana sukatan pelajaran semua subjek baik bahasa Inggeris, bahasa Melayu, matematik atau sains telah berubah mengikut peredaran masa, kita dapati ramai ibu bapa yang sudah tidak mampu membimbing anak mereka sendiri di rumah walaupun ada antara mereka mungkin berpangkat sarjana. |
