TUTOR’S BACKGROUND:
I grew up in an all Caucasian / white environment from the age of 5. I schooled and obtained both my degrees abroad. Having spent practically all my life in such an environment and having had the opportunity to have traveled to most countries around the world, gives me the added advantage of being able to relate to students of all background and needs.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
I have been an English language and a Mathematics’ tutor for the past 13 years on a part-time basis. My English language skills include teaching foreign students in England, public speaking skills, verbal pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, presentation and writing skills. While working for British and German MNCs, I had the opportunity to continue my English Language classes on weekends for staff members who were having problems with the language. Where Mathematics and Science is concerned, it is something I have always had a knack for.
WHAT YOU WILL GET:
Being a Psychologist, it gives me the added advantage to relate to my student on a more personal level. I am able to tap into what will make them tick, what are the barriers facing them and in certain cases use the various methods in Psychology to untangle these barriers. I am constantly exploring various Psychological ways to make the lessons fun and interesting for my students and to achieve results.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM MY ENGLISH CLASSES:
Toddlers: I handle reading sessions to toddlers from the age of 6 months – 4 years. I utilise the Phonics methodology. These are sessions catered to parents who want to expose the baby to English words, sounds, pictures and to a language that is usually not spoken frequently at home. This enhances the child’s cognitive skills. Research has shown that when the time comes for the child to learn English as a second language in school, it tends to be a breeze for them. Usually in these classes, I tend to read story books to them so that they can identify words and associate them to actions in the picture.
4 – 6 years old: I tend to teach them 3 new words a week. They will learn sentence construction and to try and use the word as much as possible within the home and at their play groups. Emphasis is also given to reading out loud, pronunciation and writing on a small scale.
6-15 years old: Firstly the text book syllabus is covered. However, once the child has been able to grasp that, lessons are made more interesting when games and learning aid are introduced to enhance the lessons. Students will make it very clear what their goal is and lessons will be designed with the objectives that needs to be attained.
Foreigners: Those who request lessons in English usually want to acquire a functional knowledge of the language that can be used in various scenarios. I have devised a form of teaching English that is efficient and effective. There will be lessons on pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, sentence construction, reading, listening and comprehension.
Professionals: The professional will decide what area he would like to gain some knowledge on and lessons will be catered to his needs. Having worked in MNCs, gives me the experience and knowledge needed to help you shine in your professional environment. Be it just lessons to brush up on your verbal English to a presentation to the Board, I will help you gain the confidence by mastering the English Language.
MATHEMATICS CLASSES:
I am able to handle Mathematics classes for Standards 1 – 6 and Forms 1 to 3.
TRAVEL AREA:
Presently, I live in USJ6, which is close to the Taipan triangle in Subang Jaya. I do possess a car that gives me the geographical mobility required in this line off work. Klang Valley would be my preferred choice of candidate location but to be more precise, the areas that would be extremely convenient would be Subang Jaya, Sunway, all Petaling Jaya areas, Puchong, Shah Alam, Bangsar, Hartamas, Damansara Heights, Kenny Hills and Ampang. Should you live in an area that surrounds these mentioned area, there is a chance that I may be willing to venture to. You will never know unless you call and find out.
I would prefer to handle classes at the student’s residence however should the student not find this to be conducive enough, my home is always open for classes. Please note though that USJ and Subang Jaya areas are a traffic nightmare during peak hours. If you would like to brave it, kudos to you.

TUITION RATE:
I do not fix a standard rate on an hourly basis due to the simple fact that all student’s needs differ. My rates are definitely competitive in the open market and you will see results, which should be one of the important items that should be considered. Payment is usually made at the beginning of every month.
WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP ?
Once you have decided that all of the above information has peaked an interest, you will need to set your GOAL. In this case, it would mean :- what you would like to accomplish by engaging me as your tutor. When there is a goal, it makes it a lot easier during the interview to set objectives and how we are going to reach this common goal. The student and I will decide on these objectives. Of course, parents are highly encouraged to give their input.
E.g. 1 : Student has set a goal that she would like to participate in the debating competition in the next academic year. Her verbal English, vocabulary and grammar are good. The problems are in the areas of confidence, public speaking skills and thought delivery. I will design my lessons around her needs. There will not be a need to teach her the text book lessons as this is a clear waste of time and resources and may lead to the student disliking the lessons and not to mention the tutor.
E.g. 2 : Student is 5 years old and is a foreigner. His parents have set the goal that they would like him to be able to read, write and speak the English Language. My advice to parents of pre-school age is not to set a time as to when a 5 year old should be able to grasp the language. Children at that age will focus better at something when they are not forced and are made to enjoy the lessons instead. The lessons should not seem like lessons to them but put forth in the form of games and activities.
