The Battle of Princeton was part of the American Revolution and occur on January 3, 1777  when the British General Charles Cornwallis arrived at the Delaware River near sunset on January 2, 1777 to avenge George Washington defeat of the Hessians at Trenton. General Cornwallis found General Washington army of about five thousand men occupying a precarious position alone Assunpink Creek.

Ignoring Sir William Erskine's counsel to attack immediately General Cornwallis decided to bag General Washington in the morning.
